Jasmine Sconciafurno Named Senior Scholar Athlete
TOWSON, Md. - The Landmark Conference selects 20 senior scholar athletes each year to recognize the top student-athlete in each sport based on academics and athletics.
The honorees must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.20 and are selected by a committee of Landmark Conference officers, athletics directors, and sports information directors. Chosen at the end of each sport season, the first six honorees will be announced over the next two weeks.
Senior Jasmine Sconciafurno of The University of Scranton women's soccer team is no stranger to success on the field and in the classroom. Sconciafurno was named the Landmark Conference's Senior Scholar-Athlete for women's soccer, an honor that recognizes seniors in each sport who have excelled both athletically and academically.
A marketing major with a 3.76 grade-point average, Sconciafurno was named the conference's Defensive Player of the Year this past season. She started all 19 games on defense, helping Scranton to an 13-4-2 record and an appearance in the Landmark Conference championship match for the sixth straight season. She has helped the Royals post 12 shutouts and hold their opponents to 0.63 goals per game. Sconciafurno also scored her first career goal during the season.
Sconciafurno was also named second-team All-Mid-Atlantic Region by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America this fall. She's a two-time first-team All-Landmark Conference honoree (2014, 2015) and was also a second-team choice in 2013.
In the classroom, Sconciafurno was named Academic All-District by the College Sports Information Directors of America earlier this fall. She's a three-time member of the Landmark Conference Academic Honor Roll (2013, 2014, 2015) and has been on the University's Dean's List in each semester of her academic career.
A team captain each of the past two seasons, Sconciafurno is also a member of the Omega Beta Sigma Women's Business Society and the University of Scranton Business Club. She is also a math tutor and tutor mentor in the Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence.
