All-Landmark Swimming & Diving Teams Announced

TOWSON, Md. — Of the eight major awards handed out at the conclusion of the 2015 Landmark Swimming & Diving Championships, six contained a representative from Merchant Marine.

The Mariners swept the Swimmer and Diver of the Year awards on both the men's and women's side, while the men's program also took home Rookie of the Year and co-Coaching Staff of the Year accolades.

For the third year in a row, Kevin Lindgren earned Male Swimmer of the Year recognition. Lindgren raced in 12 individual title races during his four-year career, and he came out on top in 11 of those events, including all three that he swam in over the weekend. He is currently the conference record holder in five individual events, and he broke his own records on three occasions at these championships.

Senior Jacqueline White was recognized as the Female Swimmer of the Year. White concluded her Landmark career with three individual titles, taking first in both butterfly events, posting a D-III B time in the 200 fly, and the 200 backstroke.

William Porter and Blythe Fentress swept the diving events, making them easy selections for Diver of the Year recognition. Fentress set new meet and conference records in the 1-meter dive, and she came within eight points of repeating that feat in the 3-meter, while Porter cruised to each of his two titles, winning each by 46 and 75 points, respectively.

Merchant Marine freshman Nick Lambson announced his presence in the conference with a victory in the 200 freestyle on Saturday. He added a runner-up finish in the 1650 free and a fourth place result in the 500 free. Scranton's Raquel Wasserman was certainly a deserving candidate on the women's side, as she set conference records in the preliminary sessions of both the 50 and 100 free, and then lowered each of those times during her first place finishes in the finals. Wasserman was also a runner-up to White in the 100 fly.

Mariner coach Sean Tedesco shares Coaching Staff of the Year honors for a second straight year, and this is the sixth time in eight seasons that he has been recognized by the conference. In 2015, Tedesco led Merchant Marine to its most dominant title out of its eight straight championships, with 12 event victories and a Landmark record 973 points accumulated. Catholic coach Paul Waas shares the award with Tedesco, receiving recognition for its efforts with the men's program for the first time (Waas is a three-time winner on the women's side). The Cardinals earned 518.5 points over the weekend, two back of Susquehanna for second place, and had two individual titles courtesy of sophomore Guido Saccaggi (400 IM, 1650 free).

Crusader coach Jerry Foley receives his second Coach of the Year award leading the women's program and third award overall. Susquehanna rolled to a fifth-straight team championship with a Landmark record 844. The Crusaders won eight events overall, including three from Lexi Cole (200/500/1650 free) and two from Kelsey Lessard (200/400 IM).

First Team All-Landmark honors are awarded to those swimmers who finishes first at the Landmark Championships while second place finishers earn Second Team All-Landmark recognition. A total of 34 swimmers and divers were recognized on the first team, and 11 won multiple individual events. Those not already referenced are Goucher's Sam Davis and Morgan Richter, and Merchant Marine's Stone Hewitt. Davis swept the men's sprint free events, taking first in the 50 and 100 free, while Richter swept the fly events for a second straight year and also added a championship in the 500 free. Hewitt claimed both titles in the breaststroke.

Four teams from each gender had swimmers earn first team accolades. Marywood added second team recognition on the men's side, while Drew and Goucher had women's representatives on the second team.
