Ross Danzig Selected as Men's Basketball Senior Scholar Athlete
TOWSON, Md. — Scranton's Ross Danzig has been chosen as the Landmark Men's Basketball Senior Scholar Athlete for the 2014-15 season. Danzig becomes the first Royal men's basketball player to receive senior scholar recognition since Tom Bicknell was honored back in 2007-08.
A three-time First-Team All-Landmark performer, Danzig helped lead Scranton to NCAA Tournament appearances in three of his four seasons. He was an 11-time Landmark Player of the Week, and was honored as the 2013-14 Landmark Player of the Year. Danzig ends his career with 1,793 career points, the third most in Royals history. He scored in double figures in 96 of 113 career games.
As a senior, Danzig averaged 13.8 points, 5.8 rebounds and 4.6 assists per game, earning All-Region accolades for a third straight year. His 2.7 assist-to-turnover ratio was tops in the conference.
Danzig was equally successful academically, maintaining a 3.39 grade-point average while majoring in management. He was a three-time member of the Landmark Winter Academic Honor Roll, and he earned a spot on the Capital One Academic All-District Team in both 2014 and 2015.
The Landmark Conference selects 20 senior scholar athletes each year to recognize the top student-athlete in each sport based on academics and athletics.
The honorees must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.20 and are selected by a committee of Landmark Conference officers, athletics directors, and sports information directors. Chosen at the end of each sport season, the six winter honorees will be announced between March 31 – April 2, with two named each day.
