TOWSON, Md. — Scranton's Michael Ambrose has been named the Landmark Men's Swimming & Diving Senior Scholar Athlete for the 2014-15 season. Ambrose becomes the third Royal to be honored this winter, and he is the first men's swimmer to receive scholar athlete recognition in program history.

Primarily competing as a breaststroker, Ambrose scored points in nine individual Landmark championship events during his four collegiate seasons. His top career finish was a fourth place performance in the 100 breast back in 2012-13, and he reached the finals in both the 100 and 200 breast in each of his last three seasons. Ambrose is also part of school record-holding foursomes in the 200 and 400 medley relays.

A biology major with minors in philosophy and biochemistry, Ambrose currently holds a 3.82 grade-point average at Scranton. He has earned a spot on the Dean's List in all seven eligible semesters, and he is a member of the Alpha Lambda Delta, Alpha Epsilon Delta and Alpha Sigma Nu honor societies. Ambrose, who has already been accepted into two medical schools, serves as a volunteer at the Edward R. Leahy Jr. Center Clinic for the Uninsured.

Despite his heavy involvement in both athletics and academics, Ambrose finds time for other extra-curricular activities on campus as well. He co-founded and serves as the vice president of the University of Scranton Chess Club, he is a pianist for the High Rise Access band and he is a member of Scranton's Health Professions Organization.

The Landmark Conference selects 20 senior scholar athletes each year to recognize the top student-athlete in each sport based on academics and athletics.

The honorees must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.20 and are selected by a committee of Landmark Conference officers, athletics directors, and sports information directors. Chosen at the end of each sport season, the six winter honorees will be announced between March 31 – April 2, with two named each day.
