Weaver Named Women's Indoor T&F Senior Scholar Athlete
TOWSON, Md. — Susquehanna's Cameron Weaver has been selected as the Landmark Women's Indoor Track & Field Senior Scholar Athlete for the 2014-15 season. Weaver is the 22nd Crusader to earn senior scholar accolades, and she is the fourth women's track & field honoree, joining Jessica Ranck (2013 – outdoor), Sarah Burkhardt (2008 – outdoor) and Ashley Moorman (2007-08 – indoor).
Weaver has dominated the shot put competition within the conference during her four years of collegiate competition. After finishing as the runner-up during her freshman season, she has topped the Landmark in each of the last three years. Weaver established a new conference record in the event with her toss of 12.86 meters at the Bison Open on December 6. She also set a new personal best in the weight throw this season, and she placed second in that competition at the Landmark Championships in February.
The Selinsgrove, Pa., native is currently competing on the outdoor track & field team, and she also played for two years as a goalkeeper for Susquehanna's women's soccer squad. She is the school record holder in the shot put for both indoor and outdoor, and is ranked second in the weight throw (indoor) and hammer throw (outdoor).
An early childhood education major and Spanish minor, Weaver maintains a strong 3.82 grade-point average in the classroom. She is a member of the Alpha Lambda Delta, Kappa Delta Pi and Phi Sigma Iota honor societies, and she studied abroad for two weeks through the Susquehanna Valley CASA, teaching local children in a learning trip to Costa Rica and Nicaragua. Weaver has additionally served as the head teacher for the Summer SEALS Day Camp in Selinsgrove
The Landmark Conference selects 20 senior scholar athletes each year to recognize the top student-athlete in each sport based on academics and athletics.
The honorees must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.20 and are selected by a committee of Landmark Conference officers, athletics directors, and sports information directors. Chosen at the end of each sport season, the six winter honorees will be announced between March 31 – April 2, with two named each day.
