Stephanie Romano Chosen as Softball Senior Scholar Athlete

TOWSON, Md. — Scranton infielder Stephanie Romano has been honored as the Landmark Softball Senior Scholar Athlete for the 2015 season. She is the fifth Royal senior to be recognized in 2014-15, and she is the first Scranton softball senior to be named a senior scholar athlete.

Following back-to-back Second-Team All-Landmark selections, Romano moved up to the first team in 2015 after finishing with a .330 batting average and eight stolen bases while committing only one error during her 28 starts at second base. A two-time team captain, she ends her Royal career with a .346 lifetime average, including 108 hits and 10 doubles. She is ninth in program history with 79 runs scored.

Romano has maintained success on the field while registering a 3.95 grade-point average as an accounting major. She has the highest GPA among all Scranton female athletes and among all accounting majors, and she earned a perfect 4.0 average in four of her semesters on campus. The vice president of the Royal SAAC, Romano is also a member of the Beta Alpha Si Accounting, Omega Beta Sigma Women's Business and Alpha Lambda Delta Freshman honors societies.

At the conclusion of her senior season, Romano was presented with the University of Scranton Carlesimo Award for academic and athletic achievement at the school's senior luncheon on May 16. She has traveled to multiple leadership conferences, including trips to Atlanta and Dallas, while also serving as a Resident Assistant for the past two years.

The Landmark Conference selects 20 senior scholar athletes each year to recognize the top student-athlete in each sport based on academics and athletics.

The honorees must have a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.20 and are selected by a committee of Landmark Conference officers, athletics directors, and sports information directors. Chosen at the end of each sport season, the eight spring honorees will be announced between June 1-11, with one winner named each morning from Monday through Thursday over the next two weeks.
