Clark Named 2015 Women's Outdoor Senior Scholar Athlete
TOWSON, Md. — Catholic thrower Mary Clark has been chosen as the 2015 Landmark Women's Outdoor Track & Field Senior Scholar Athlete. She is the fourth Cardinal senior recognized this academic year, and the third women's outdoor track athlete to receive the honor, joining Kristen Kennedy (2008-09) and Rebecca Radcliffe (2013-14).
Clark concluded a highly-successful collegiate career by being named the Landmark Field Athlete of the Year at this spring's outdoor conference championships. She was recognized after claiming her third consecutive Landmark title in the hammer throw and receiving Second-Team All-Landmark accolades in the discus.
The Manasquan, N.J., native was previously the co-Field Athlete of the Year for both the indoor and outdoor seasons in 2013-14. Clark was a two-time indoor champion in the weight throw, taking home the title as both a junior and a senior.
A seven-time Dean's List honoree, Clark holds a 3.68 grade-point average while majoring in biology. She is a member of the Phi Eta Sigma Freshman Honors Society and landed on the Landmark Academic Honor Roll each eligible semester. Clark additionally participates in several extracurricular and volunteer activities. She is the captain of Catholic's cheerleading team and has volunteered with the Trinitas Emergency Hospital ER, the IGA Foundation of America's Annual 5K Run/2 Mile Walk, the Cade Foundation Race for the Family, and the Little Sisters of the Poor. Clark has also been a part of Catholic's Relay for Life event on three separate occasions.
The Landmark Conference selects 20 senior scholar athletes each year to recognize the top student-athlete in each sport based on academics and athletics. The honorees must have a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.20 and are selected by a committee of Landmark Conference officers, athletics directors, and sports information directors. Of this year's 20 winners, Moravian and Scranton led the way with five seniors chosen from each institution.
