Christine Evangelista Named Women's Tennis Senior Scholar Athlete

TOWSON, Md. — Elizabethtown's Christine Evangelista has been selected as the 2015 Landmark Women's Tennis Senior Scholar Athlete. Along with Kristopher Davis (baseball), she is the second Blue Jay senior to be honored this spring, and the third overall in 2014-15.

Evangelista will leave Elizabethtown with 116 career victories across singles and doubles, a total which ranks her third all-time in program history. She spent each of her last two seasons at the top of the Blue Jays' lineup in both singles and doubles. Evangelista was a First-Team All-Commonwealth Conference selection for singles in 2013-14, and she landed on the first team for singles and the second team for doubles in the Landmark this spring. Elizabethtown went 7-0 in conference matches this season, defeating Scranton 5-2 in the Landmark championship match on May 2 to clinch its sixth-straight NCAA appearance.

The Harrisburg, Pa., native was a key contributor in all four seasons for the Blue Jays. She set school records for single-season singles victories (24) and combined wins in a season (46) as a freshman in 2011-12. Evangelista is the ninth player in program history to win 100 or more matches for her career.

While her on-court success is impressive, Evangelista has been equally or even more extraordinary in the classroom. She maintains a 3.97 grade-point average while double-majoring in physics and mathematics. Evangelista earned a spot on the MAC and Landmark Spring Academic Honor Rolls each year that she was eligible.

The Landmark Conference selects 20 senior scholar athletes each year to recognize the top student-athlete in each sport based on academics and athletics.

The honorees must have a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.20 and are selected by a committee of Landmark Conference officers, athletics directors, and sports information directors. Chosen at the end of each sport season, the eight spring honorees are being announced between June 1-11.
