Farrell Honored as 2015 Men's Outdoor Senior Scholar Athlete
TOWSON, Md. — Moravian distance runner Dillon Farrell has been named the 2015 Landmark Men's Outdoor Track & Field Senior Scholar Athlete. Farrell is the fifth Greyhound honored in 2014-15, and he is the third outdoor honoree in the Landmark era, joining Nathaniel Tussey (2007-08) and Craig Arner (2013-14).
The North Wales, Pa., native closed out his conference career with his second 10,000 meter title at this year's Landmark Championships, topping his closest competitor by over five seconds. Farrell added a runner-up performance in the 5,000 meters.
During the regular season, Farrell was chosen as the Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week on March 30 and April 6, giving him an incredible 21 total AOTW awards across track and cross country during his time at Moravian. Farrell was a three-time First-Team All-Landmark performer in cross country, and he earned All-America accolades after placing 17th in the nation this past fall. He was also the 2014 Landmark Indoor Track Athlete of the Year, and he is the current outdoor conference record holder in the 10,000.
In the classroom, Farrell holds a 3.49 grade-point average as a nursing major. He was named to the Capital One Academic All-District Teams in 2013 and 2014, and he is a nine-time Landmark Academic Honor Roll honoree. Farrell additionally is the founder and president of MoCo 4 Coco, an organization which raises money and awareness to fight against pediatric cancer. All funds raised are donated to families in the Lehigh Valley area and the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. Farrell is a member of the Student Nurses Association, and he has participated in Habitat for Humanity.
The Landmark Conference selects 20 senior scholar athletes each year to recognize the top student-athlete in each sport based on academics and athletics.
The honorees must have a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.20 and are selected by a committee of Landmark Conference officers, athletics directors, and sports information directors. Chosen at the end of each sport season, the eight spring honorees are being announced between June 1-11.
