Scranton's Erin Casey Named Landmark's Women's Soccer Senior Scholar Athlete

TOWSON, Md. - The Landmark Conference selects 20 senior scholar athletes each year to recognize the top student-athlete in each sport based on academics and athletics.

The honorees must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.20 and are selected by a committee of Landmark, athletics directors, sports information directors, senior woman administrators, and faculty athletic representatives. Chosen at the end of each sport season, the first six honorees will be announced over the next two weeks.

A standout defender during her career, Scranton's Erin Casey overcame an injury that forced her to sit out the 2015 season. She returned this season while pursuing her master's degree in business administration with a concentration in accounting and has a cumulative grade-point average of 3.94.

Earlier this fall, Casey was named Academic All-District by the College Sports Information Directors of America for the second time in her career. The honor made her eligible for Academic All-American honors, which will be announced Friday.

Casey is a member of the Business Leadership Honors Program, Who's Who in America, Summa Cum Laude, Alpha Sigma Lambda and Omega Beta Sigma. She is a Dean's List student and was named to the Landmark Conference Academic Honor Roll three times. Casey is also a member of the Society of Accounting Students, Scranton Emerging Leaders and the Business Club, has worked for the Royal Television Network, and has volunteered with the Special Olympics and the Catholic Heart Work Camp.

This season, Casey helped the Royals go 17-1-2, win the Landmark Conference championship and advance to the NCAA Tournament. They won 15 straight at one point and finished the season with 14 shutouts, tied for fourth most in a single season in Scranton history, largely aided by Casey's play and leadership along the backline. She has started all 20 matches and helped Scranton hold opponents to 0.55 goals per game.

Casey was the Landmark Conference Defensive Player of the Year and a National Soccer Coaches Association third-team all-region selection in 2013. She was also a first-team all-Landmark Conference selection this season, as well as in 2013 and 2014, and a second-team choice in 2012.
