Landmark Volleyball Awards Announced
TOWSON, Md. – Juniata swept the 2016 Landmark Volleyball major awards and Kelly Reynolds was voted the Landmark Player of the Year for the second year in a row. Katie Byrne was named the Specialist of the Year and Megan Conger was chosen as the Rookie of the Year. The Juniata coaching staff also repeats as the Landmark Coaching Staff of the Year.
Reynolds is averaging a career-best 11.27 assists per set for Juniata this season. That ranks first in both the Landmark and the NCAA. Earlier this season, she became the fourth Eagles player to eclipse the 4,000 assist mark and she is nine assists away from passing Jennifer Rebert for third on the all-time list. Recently, Reynolds was one of two current Eagle players to be named to the All-Decade Team, and has been named to the All-Landmark First Team for the third straight year.
Byrne was one of two Eagles to play in all 30 matches. She compiled 547 digs and averaged 5.11 per set to rank second in both categories. A Second Team selection, and Rookie of the Year in 2015, Byrne is making her first appearance of the Landmark's First Team.
Conger played in 24 matches and 73 sets this season for Juniata. She totaled 94 kills, 49 digs, and 23 total blocks.
The Coaching Staff of the Year honor marks the sixth for the Eagles and fourth since Heather Pavlik took over as head coach. Juniata went undefeated in the conference for the 10th straight season before earning its 10th Landmark title. Pavlik and her staff will lead Juniata into a record 36th NCAA tournament this weekend.
Seven of the eight First Team All-Conference honorees represent the top four teams in the Landmark this year. Juniata senior Suzanne Gloekler helped lead the Eagles to their 10th straight Landmark title with 151 kills, 37 digs, and seven total blocks while hitting .267. Susquehanna senior Erin Byrne wraps up her career as a four-time All-Conference selection. Named to the First Team all four years, after finishing the season with 2.79 kills per set. Teammate junior Morgan Lowe makes her first appearance on the Landmark all-conference list after finishing the season with 375 kills (3.21 k/s), 259 digs, and 42 blocks.
Juniata senior Nakita Gearhart is another repeat selection, earning First Team honors for the fourth time in her career. The middle hitter racked up 3.46 kills per set in Landmark action and .367 hitting percentage. Catholic senior Kathryn Herrington has earned a spot on the First Team for this first time in her career. Herrington notched 2.54 kills per set and .312 hitting percentage in the regular season. A Second Team selection a year ago, Elizabethtown sophomore Mackenzie Garner earned a spot on the First Team after finishing the regular season with than three kills per set and .358 hitting percentage.
