Field Hockey Players Honored With All-Landmark Honors
TOWSON, Md. – The Landmark has announced its 2016 Field Hockey All-Conference teams. Elizabethtown's Halley Donlin was voted Player of the Year, and Catholic's Kelly Cousoulis was named Defensive Player of the Year. Susquehanna's Hunter Pitman was named Rookie of the Year and Elizabethown head coach Brandy Michael and Goucher's head coach Megan Williams earned Landmark Coaching Staff of the Year honors.
Donlin has not just been an anchor for Elizabethtown's defense this season, but for all four years she has played under coach Brandy Michael. The defenses Donlin has played on have consistently been ranked among the tops in conference play the last four seasons, including 2014 when the Blue Jays' defense was 17th across NCAA Division III with a 1.14 goals against average. She has played in and started every game since her sophomore year after starting 18 of 20 games as a freshman. A 2015 All-Landmark First Team defender, Donlin played a crucial role in helping E-town to its first-ever Landmark Conference championship by shutting out Susquehanna's top-ranked offense in the title game. Donlin also scored the first two goals of her career this season, with her first coming against Drew on Sept. 24.
Cousoulis started every game for the Cardinals this fall, helping the team allow just two goals in conference play this year for a conference-leading goals against average of 0.29. She earned Landmark Defensive Athlete of the Week twice this year, and finished the season with three goals, two assists, and three defensive saves.
Donlin and Cousoulis were also named to the First Team All-Landmark. The third defender on the First Team is Drew's Michele Pozyc. Pozyc leads the Rangers in defensive saves for the third year and added on to her school and Landmark records for career defensive saves, totaling eight in 2016 and 43 for her career.
Pitman is only the second-ever SU player to be named the Landmark Conference Rookie of the Year; Ally Bradley '13 earned the honor in 2009. Pitman started 17 of 19 games this fall and led the team in goals (22) and points (51) while adding seven assists, third-best on the team. She had five game-winning goals, tied for the team lead. Her 51 points are second-most in single season history and her 22 goals tie for her the single season record at SU.
The First Team forward's include Pitman, Catholic's Rachel Day, Elizabethtown's Emma Christman, and Scranton's Meredith Campbell. Day finished the year with 13 goals, which ranked her third in the Landmark. Campbell finished with 10, which is tied for fourth in the conference with Christman. Christman's seven assists also ranks her tied for fourth in the conference.
2015 all-conference first team performers Lane Adams (Catholic), and Nicole Leaf (Elizabethtown) return to headline the midfielders. Joining the duo are Megan Eppley from Elizabethtown, and Lauren Cram from Susquehanna. Leaf ranks second in assists with nine, while Cram is not far behind with eight.
Analisa Scott makes her third appearance in the Landmark First Team as being the top goalie in the conference. The senior allowed just two goals to conference opponents and made 63 saves overall.
At the helm of the program she once played for, head coach Brandy Michael's teams have won at least ten games in all eight of the seasons she has been in charge. That includes the 14 wins in 2016, which ties the team for the most under Michael. The Landmark Championship win over Susquehanna was the 99th of her career and the first league crown for the Blue Jays since 1987. E-town also qualified for the NCAA Division III Tournament for the first time since 2006.
This is the first time that Megan Williams and her staff have been recognized as Landmark Coaching Staff of the Year in her five seasons at the helm of the Gophers field hockey program. Williams and her staff has helped the program win 27 games over the past three years and led Goucher to the Landmark tournament for just the second time since 2007, where they claimed the No. 4 seed.
