Indoor Track & Field Awards Announced
SELINSGROVE, Pa. — On Saturday, the conference announced the 2016 Landmark Indoor Track & Field All-Conference honorees, which included five from Moravian, which swept the men’s and women’s titles, while three came from Susquehanna, and one from Juniata.
Senior Corinne Glass from Moravian was named the Landmark’s Women’s Track Athlete of the Year. Glass ended Susquehanna’s Ashley West’s, who had won the honor three straight years. Glass won the 200-meter and 400-meter dashes. She established a new conference and championship meet record in the 400 with a time of 58.06. Glass was also the anchor on the winning 4x400-meter relay team that crossed the finish line first with a time of 4:07.90.
Her teammate, sophomore Melissa Cheong, was named Co-Women’s Field Athlete of the Year. Cheong, the 2015 Rookie of the Year, earned a first place finish in the long jump with a mark of 5.25-meters, and was second in the high jump (1.75-meters). The sophomore shared the honor with Susquehanna senior Renea Broscious. Broscious throw of 13.65-meters in the weight throw placed her third overall and easily eclipsed her previous personal-best mark of 13.40-meters. The senior later captured the shot put title with her career-best throw of 11.52-meters.
Freshman Sarah Rinaldi from Susquehana captured Rookie of the Year honors. The rookie had a career-best jump of 4.74-meters in the long jump, and went on to tie for fourth in the high jump, posting a height of 1.52-meters to match her career high.
Susquehanna’s senior Kwane Hayle was named the Men’s Track Athlete of the Year for the second consecutive season. Hayle dominated the sprint events, and finishes his stellar career unbeaten in the 60 and 200 meter dash. This is his third time receiving the award, with the first coming during his freshman season in 2012-13.
Moravian’s Greg Cahill was named the Field Athlete of the Meet. In the weight throw, Cahill was victorious by nearly a meter with a meet record toss of 16.22-meters, and placed second in the shot put with a mark of 15.08-meters.
Juniata freshman Matthew Kinnebrew was named this year’s Rookie of the Year. Kinnebrew finished second in the triple jump, reaching a distance of 13.04-meters and garnered a fourth place spot in the Juniata record books. He also jumped a distance of 6.51-meters in the long jump, finishing fourth and cleared a height of 1.88-meters in the high jump, placing second.
Jesse Baumann have led the Greyhounds to men's and women's championships in each of his first five seasons. In doing so, he and his assistants were named Coaching Staff of the Year for both genders on Saturday. This is Baumann's fifth award on the men's side and his fourth leading the women.
First Team All-Landmark honors are awarded to those student-athletes who finish first at the Landmark Championships while second place finishers earn Second Team All-Landmark recognition.
