Catholic's Erin Schlegel Named Women's Track Senior Scholar Athlete
TOWSON, Md. – Erin Schlegel of Catholic University has been named the 2016 Landmark Conference Senior Scholar-Athlete for Women's Indoor Track & Field.
A three-time Landmark Academic Honor Roll selection, Schlegel has earned Dean's List accolades every semester at CUA. She is a member of student government, a campus minister and has participated in numerous service projects over her four years at Catholic. She is also a member of the President's Society and works in President Garvey's office on campus.
Schlegel is leading a mission trip to Belize in May. She works as a teacher's assistant in the biology genetic engineering lab and is doing research under the supervision of her professors. Schlegel has also worked in the library as an access services assistant, is a member of SAAC and also sings opera.
A captain of the cross country and track teams, Schlegel recently finished seventh in the mile at the Landmark Championships this past season. She also took fourth in the distance medley relay as a junior and won the 4x800 as a freshman, helping Catholic to top-four finishes each of the past four years.
The Landmark Conference selects 20 senior scholar athletes each year to recognize the top student-athlete in each sport based on academics and athletics.
The honorees must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.20 and are selected by a committee of Landmark Conference officers, athletics directors, and sports information directors. Chosen at the end of each sport season, the six winter honorees will be announced between March 15 –23.
