Emily Walsh Named Women’s Tennis Senior Scholar Athlete

TOWSON, Md. – Scranton’s Emily Walsh has been selected as the 2016 Landmark Women’s Tennis Senior Scholar Athlete. Along with Bridget Gallaher (women’s lacrosse), she is the second Royal senior to be honored this spring, and fourth overall in 2015-16.

Walsh will leave Scranton with 92 career victories across singles (49) and doubles (43), a total which ranks her second all-time in program history. She spent each of her last two seasons at the top of the Royals’ lineup in both singles and doubles. Walsh was a First Team All-Landmark selection in each of her last three seasons.

While her on-court success is impressive, Walsh has been equally impressive in the classroom and community. The Scranton, Pa., native maintains a 3.76 grade-point average while majoring in nursing. Walsh earned a spot on the Landmark Spring Academic Honor Rolls each year that she was eligible, and has made the Dean’s List every semester at Scranton, and is a member of the Sigma Theta Tau honor society of nursing.

Additionally, Walsh is a volunteer for the university’s nursing department, serves as a teaching assistant in anatomy and physiology, and is a member of both the Student Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC), and the Student Nurse Association.

The Landmark Conference selects 20 senior scholar athletes each year to recognize the top student-athlete in each sport based on academics and athletics.

The honorees must have a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.20 and are selected by a committee of Landmark Conference officers, athletics directors, and sports information directors. Chosen at the end of each sport season, the eight spring honorees will be announced between May 19-25.
