Patrick Jones Named Men’s Cross Country Senior Scholar Athlete
TOWSON, Md. – The Landmark Conference selects 22 senior scholar athletes each year to recognize the top student-athlete in each sport based on academics and athletics.
The honorees must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.20 and are selected by a committee of Landmark Conference officers, athletics directors, senior woman administrators, faculty athletic representatives, and sports information directors. Chosen at the end of each sport season, the first six honorees will be announced over the next week.
Catholic University’s Patrick Jones has been named the Men’s Cross Country Senior Scholar Athlete. Jones is the second Cardinal Senior Scholar Athlete. Andrew Smith was selected in 2009.
Last month, he helped the Cardinals to a fifth place finish at the Landmark Championships and placed in the top-three at three different meets this fall. He is a 10-time Academic Honor Roll member over three different sports: cross country, swimming and outdoor track, and a soon-to-be 12-time varsity letterwinner for the Cardinals as a three-sport athlete.
Academically, Jones has earned a 3.75 cumulative grade point average while majoring in mechanical engineering. Originally from Hagerstown, Md., he has been named to the 2016-17 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District team and helped the Cardinals to three U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Team accolades.
