Holtschneider Named Men’s Soccer Senior Scholar Athlete
TOWSON, Md. – The Landmark Conference selects 22 senior scholar athletes each year to recognize the top student-athlete in each sport based on academics and athletics.
The honorees must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.20 and are selected by a committee of Landmark Conference officers, athletics directors, senior woman administrators, faculty athletic representatives, and sports information directors. Chosen at the end of each sport season, the first six honorees will be announced over the next week.
Catholic University of America’s Matthew Holtschneider has been named the Men’s Soccer Senior Scholar Athlete. Holtscheinder is the first men’s soccer honoree from Catholic and 27th overall.
Holtschneider earned All-Landmark First Team honors this season. He appeared in 18 games with 12 starts and scored one goal throughout his senior campaign. He was named to the All-Landmark Second Team as a sophomore. During his four-year career, the Cardinals qualified for the Landmark playoffs three times and won the 2014 Landmark Championship to earn a trip to the NCAA tournament.
Academically, Holtschneider has earned a 3.95 cumulative grade point average while majoring in civil engineering. Originally from Kingsville, Pa., he is a three-time Landmark Academic Honor Roll selection and a six-time selection to Catholic’s Dean’s List.
He has the highest grade point average among all Catholic male student-athletes, and has earned scholarships from the Retail Contractors Association, Construction Management Association of America, and the Society of Military Engineers.
Holtschneider is a member of the Tau Beta Pi and Phi Eta Sigma Honors Society and was an intern with the Whiting Turner General Contracting Company.
