Clair Schmitzer Named Landmark Women's Lacrosse Senior Scholar Athlete
TOWSON, Md. – Catholic midfielder Clair Schmitzer has been named as the 2017 Landmark Women's Lacrosse Senior Scholar Athlete. Schmitzer is the third Cardinals to be recognized this academic year, joining Guido Saccaggi (men's swimming & diving) and Tim Keith (men's lacrosse), and is the third Catholic women's lacrosse student-athlete to be honored.
Schmitzer earned First Team All-Landmark accolades in 2014 and 2016. She won four conference championship and finished her career with 77 goals, 68 assists, 145 points, 238 groundballs, 122 draw controls, and 99 caused turnovers.
A civil engineering major, Schmitzer maintained a 3.91 grade-point average in the classroom. She has made the Dean's List all eight semesters at Catholic as well as being named to the Landmark Honor Roll in all eligible semesters. She is a member of the Engineering Honors Society (Tau Beta Pi) and has interned for Kiewit Construction (2015) and Balfour Beatty Construction (2016, 2017).
Schmitzer was heavily involved in community service projects. She was a four-year volunteer for Catholic's "Halloween on Campus," a four-year volunteer for Martin Luther King Day of Service, and volunteered at the Brookland Field Day all four years as a Cardinal.
The Landmark Conference selects 20 senior scholar athletes each year to recognize the top student-athlete in each sport based on academics and athletics.
The honorees must have a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.20 and are selected by a committee of Landmark Conference officers, athletics directors, faculty athletic representatives, senior woman administrators, and sports information directors. Chosen at the end of each sport season, the eight spring honorees will be announced over the next week.
