Juniata Men’s Tennis Holds Off Drew in Landmark Semifinals

ALTOONA, Pa.- The Juniata men's tennis team did not let a change of venue affect their play in the Landmark semifinals against Drew. The Eagles led 2-1 after doubles and went on to take three of five singles matches on their way to a 5-3 win on Tuesday afternoon at the Summit Tennis and Athletic Club.
The Eagles advance to the Landmark Championship for the fourth straight season. Juniata will play Goucher for the third year in a row. The Gophers defeated Scranton in the other semifinal 5-2.
The pair of Dean Polisena and Roy Liberman won at first doubles by the score of 8-5 over Vineet Vemulapally and Geoffrey Diehl. Jason Gerber and Dan Ansel were 8-4 winners at third doubles against the duo of Kevin Shulca and Bryce Weizer.
Polisena and Liberman both fell in their respective singles matches. Liberman went to three sets with Vemulapally but lost by the score of 4-6, 7-6, 2-6.
Matyas Kohout took Will Morrison to three sets and Kohout came away with a 6-0, 2-6, 6-1 win at third flight. Daichi McAuliffe-Uchida kept his winning streak going as he took down Diehl 6-3, 6-4 at fourth singles. The deciding match came in fifth flight as Ansel was a 6-2, 6-2 victor over Weizer.
The championship match will take this place this Saturday at the Raffensberger-Brumbaugh Tennis Courts. Start time is 1:00 p.m.
