Softball Major Award Winners Revealed

TOWSON, Md. – Moravian’s Janae Matos was voted the Landmark Softball Player of the Year. Josie Novak from Moravian was picked the Pitcher of the Year for the second consecutive season while Juniata’s Alyssa Shedlock was selected the Rookie of the Year.
Matos dominated at the plate this season. The two-time First Team All-Landmark selection led the conference with a .525 batting average. She drove in a Landmark-best 42 RBI while totaling 21 doubles and three homeruns. Matos was even better in conference play, hitting .517.
Novak paced the league with an impressive 0.58 earned run average this season. She earned a 17-2 record in the circle and finished the regular season with 13 shutouts. Her Landmark earned run average is an astounding 0.00. She also fanned 133 batters in 121.2 innings pitched.
Shedlock finished fourth in the conference with a .394 batting average to go along with her 27 RBI, 10 doubles, three triples, and two homeruns.
Matos, Novak, and Shedlock also earned First Team honors for their efforts. Moravian senior Abby Jeffries hit .411 this season to rank third in the Landmark. She was honored for her performance as a first basemen.
The other First Team infielders include Catholic second basemen Erin Adams, Juniata’s Kerigan Ammerman, and Moravian’s Kaela Kane. Adams hit .339 with 27 RBI while Ammerman ranked third in the conference with 13 stolen bases and hit .389.
Outfielders Julie Siragusa and Megan Zinn also earned First Team recognition. Siragusa is a two-time First Team selection. She hit safely in 31 games, including a 15-game hitting streak. Zinn hit .389 at the plate to rank second for Scranton.
Moravian’s Olivia Martin and Lauren Goetz round out the Greyhounds who earned First Team honor. Martin hit .359, predominantly as the designated player. Goetz split time as an infielder for the Greyhounds to earn First Team Utility honors. She went .333 at the plate with 17 RBI.
Susquehanna pitcher Jamie Fesinstine rounds out the First Team. She went 5-1 in Landmark competition and picked up two saves. The 2014 Rookie of the Year earned Second Team honors a year ago.
John Byrne and his staff are honored by their peers for the fourth time in 10 seasons. He has a career slate of 779-229, has posted a 34-4 overall record this spring, the 24th consecutive season that Moravian has won at least 23 games, and an 11-1 mark in Landmark Conference action.
