Landmark Announces Athletes of the Week

TOWSON, Md. - The Landmark Conference has released the Athletes of the Week. The conference will recognize a student-athlete for each sport based on their contributions to their team throughout the season.

Men’s Basketball
Moravian College earned its fifth straight win on Saturday, defeating Juniata College, 83-76 in overtime. The game is the second straight overtime victory for the Greyhounds (15-6, 8-2 LC). With the win, Moravian moves to a first-place tie with Drew University. The Rangers (16-5, 8-2 LC) bounced back for their 89-85 loss to Moravian to defeat Goucher College 73-66. Susquehanna University picked up a 79-68 win at Elizabethtown College. The River Hawks (14-7, 7-3 LC) are third in the standings. The University of Scranton (17-4, 6-4 LC) earned an important conference victory at Catholic University to sit in fourth.

Women’s Basketball
No. 6 University of Scranton suffered another setback, dropping a 59-50 decision at Catholic University. The Royals (19-2, 8-2 LC) still sit at the top of the standings with four games remaining. Not far behind is Elizabethtown College (14-6, 7-3 LC). The Blue Jays picked up their third straight win, defeating Susquehanna University 66-54. Juniata College (8-13, 6-4 LC) and Moravian College (14-7, 6-4 LC) are tied for third in the standings, while Catholic (13-8, 5-5 LC) and Drew University (12-8, 5-5 LC) are fighting to jump into the top-four and a playoff spot.

Swimming & Diving
With two weeks until the 2019 Landmark Swimming & Diving Championships, only three teams competed over the weekend. The conference championships will take place Friday, Feb. 15 and conclude on Sunday, Feb. 17. Click here for all championship information.

Men's Athlete of the Week - Dominic Dunn, Susquehanna

Susquehanna University freshman Dominic Dunn had two straight double-doubles to help the River Hawks to a 2-0 week. He put up 18 points and 12 rebounds for the second time this season against Scranton. Dunn followed up that performance with 17 points and 11 rebounds against Elizabethtown. On the week, Dunn shot 42% from the field and was a perfect 10-for-10 from the charity stripe.

Women's Athlete of the Week - Maddie Capuano, Moravian

(Jr., G - Bethlehem, Pa.)

Moravian College junior Maddie Capuano helped Moravian to a 2-0 week by averaging 22.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game on the road in Landmark Conference action. She also shot 14-of-25 from the floor, 4-for-8 on three-pointers and 13-for-14 at the foul line while moving up to 15th in school history with 1,146 career points. Capuano had 20 points, five rebounds, three assists and a pair of blocked shots in 25 minutes of action in a 75-62 victory at Drew University last Wednesday. She then added 25 points, five rebounds, three assists and a pair of steals in 33 minutes in Moravian's 80-55 win at Juniata College.

Men's Athlete of the Week - Guillaume Gouronc, Elizabethtown

Elizabethtown College senior Guillaume Gouronc won a pair of individual events and was second in another and swam a leg on a winning relay as E-town won big at Gallaudet on Saturday, 209-35, in their final dual meet of the season. Gouronc won both breaststroke events, the 100 and 200, was the second leg of the winning 200 medley relay to start the meet, and placed second in the 200 IM for the Blue Jays.

Women's Athlete of the Week - Stephanie Cushman, Drew

Drew University junior Stephanie Cushman contributed to three victories, helping the Rangers defeat Ramapo 120-85 in Drew's final dual meet of the season. She opened the meet by swimming the leadoff backstroke leg of the winning 200-medley relay team (1:55.96). Cushman went on to win both the 200-IM (2:22.18) and the 100-backstroke (1:01.40), winning by nearly four seconds in the former and over three seconds in the latter.

Men's Track Athlete of the Week - Greg Jaindl, Moravian

Moravian College junion Greg Jaindl competed in two meets in two days and had a first place finish in both for the Greyhounds. On Friday, he ran the anchor leg of Moravian's distance medley relay team that won the race in the New York City Division III Invitational at the New York City Armory in a time of 10:22.80, the second fastest time in school history and sixth fastest (now 9th) in NCAA Division III this winter. Less than 24 hours later, Jaindl opened the Susquehanna University Challenge by winning the 5,000-meter run in a time of 15:18.47, a personal best, and fastest time in the Landmark, before finishing the meet with the anchor leg of Moravian's "B" 4X400-meter relay squad that was ninth in 3:39.11.

Men's Field Athlete of the Week - Mark Merli, Scranton

Men's Field Athlete of the Week - Mark Merli, Scranton

(Sr., Peckville, Pa.)

University of Scranton senior Mark Merli posted a pair of top-10 finishes on Saturday at the S.U. Challenge, finishing sixth in the long jump while tying for ninth in the triple jump. He also helped lead the Royals to a 7th place finish in the 4x200 meter relay.

Women's Track Athlete of the Week - Kiera Lyons, Catholic

Catholic University senior Kiera Lyons earns her second straight Athlete of the Week award after setting the indoor 3k school record. Her time of 10:25.84 in the 3k marks the fastest in the Landmark Conference this year. The DMR time of 12:59.74) is the fastest in school history since the 1980's, and is the fastest in the Landmark Conference this year, and the 15th fastest in the nation.

Women's Field Athlete of the Week - Andrea Galeano, Catholic

(Sr., Stratford, Conn.)

Catholic University senior Andrea Galeano won the weight throw at the NYU DIII Invitaitonal with a mark of 15.03m. She followed that performance with a seventh place showing in the shot put, finishing with a mark of 10.58m.
