Landmark Announces Athletes of the Week

TOWSON, Md. - The Landmark Conference has released the Athletes of the Week. The conference will recognize a student-athlete for each sport based on their contributions to their team throughout the season.

Baseball
Conference play continued over the weekend. Moravian swept Elizabethtown 3-0, outscoring the Blue Jays 23-6 over the three games. Scranton earned the 3-0 series win against Juniata, and Susquehanna defeated Catholic 3-0. The River Hawks earned a 5-4, 12-inning victory on Saturday, and came back and defeated the Cardinals 5-3 and 17-2 on Sunday.

Men’s Lacrosse
Landmark action started on Saturday with three teams picking up a victory. Catholic defeated Elizabethtown 11-6. Moravian beat Goucher 14-7, and Scranton earned a 15-7 victory against Susquehanna.

Women’s Lacrosse
Four teams earned their first conference win of the season on Saturday. Drew defeated Juniata 16-1, while Moravian earned a 23-10 victory at Goucher. Catholic dominated Elizabethtown 20-4 and Scranton picked up a 16-2 win against Susquehanna.

Softball
Moravian, now winners of eight straight games, swept Elizabethtown on Sunday. The Greyhounds outscored the Blue Jays 19-1 over the two games. Scranton, who has now won five straight games, swept Juniata, 9-4 and 17-7. Catholic split with Susquehanna, winning game one 4-1 before falling to the River Hawks 6-4.

Tennis
Moravian was the lone conference game over the weekend. The Greyhounds defeated visiting Elizabethtown 6-3 on the men’s side, and picked up a 6-3 decision on the women’s side.

Track & Field
The 2019 outdoor track & field season began on Saturday. Goucher hosted its annual classic while Elizabethtown, Juniata, Moravian, and Scranton also competed. Catholic competed at the Goucher classic.

Athlete of the Week - Steve Lorenz, Susquehanna

Athlete of the Week - Steve Lorenz, Susquehanna

(So, OF - Feasterville-Trevose, Pa.)

Susquehanna sophomore Steve Lorenz had another huge week for the River Hawks, hitting .421 (8-for-19) with one double, two homeruns, and five RBI. On Friday, the sophomore hit the game-winning homerun in the bottom of the 12th inning to lift the River Hawks to hte 5-4 win over preseason, and 2018 Landmark champion Catholic. He added three stolen bases and drew two walks on the week.

Pitcher of the Week - Brendon Caraway, Moravian

Pitcher of the Week - Brendon Caraway, Moravian

Moravian senior Brendon Caraway picked up two of the Greyhounds four wins in a 4-1 week for the Greyhounds, which was the first half of a 10-game home stand that included a Landmark Conference series sweep of Elizabethtown College. Caraway had a 0.00 ERA, eight strikeouts, three hits and six walks over nine innings in his two appearances. He earned a win in relief in the Greyhounds' 4-2 win over Montclair State University with four strikeouts in two innings of action. Caraway then tossed the first seven innings in Moravian's 13-2 series opening win over Elizabethtown with three hits, six walks and four more strikeouts.

Women's Athlete of the Week - Lucy Lamb, Drew

Women's Athlete of the Week - Lucy Lamb, Drew

Drew sophomore Lucy Lamb placed second out of 34 golfers at the Revolutionary Collegiate Classic, hosted by Ursinus College. She shot a 165 (84-81), tying the program record that she already shared for the lowest 36-hole score. Lamb also helped Drew break the team record for the lowest 36-hole score (709) and tie the program standard for the lowest 18-hole mark (345) on the second day of the tournament.

Offensive Athlete of the Week - Michael Elefonte, Scranton

Offensive Athlete of the Week - Michael Elefonte, Scranton

Scranton junior Michael Elefonte had a huge week to lead Scranton to a pair of wins, racking up 11 points on eight goals and three assists. The junior midfielder scored five goals to lead the Royals to a 15-12 win at Misericordia on Wednesday while also adding five groundballs and one caused turnover against the Cougars. Elefonte then posted a career-high six points, scoring three goals and assisting on three others, as Scranton won its Landmark Conference opener on Saturday at Susquehanna, 15-7. He also had four groundballs and one caused turnover against the River Hawks.

Defensive Athlete of the Week - Rick Guerra, Moravian

Moravian senior Rick Guerra helped the Greyhounds begin the 2019 Landmark Conference season with a 14-7 win over Goucher College on John Makuvek Field. Guerra was 17-for-25 on face-offs in the match, scooping up nine ground balls on those 17 wins to help set up the Moravian offense.

Offensive Athlete of the Week - Ally Criscuolo, Catholic

Catholic junior Ally Criscuolo scored with 3:37 left in overtime to give the 14th-ranked Cardinals a 10-9 win over No. 2 Franklin & Marshall Wednesday in the first game at the new Carlini Field. Her game-winning goal was the third of her career. Criscuolo posted her second hat trick of the season and a season-high four points on Saturday as Catholic opened Landmark Conference play with a 20-4 victory over Elizabethtown.

Defensive Athlete of the Week - Nanci Hernandez, Catholic

Catholic junior Nanci Hernandez made a season-high 12 saves as the 14th-ranked Cardinals posted a 10-9 win over No. 2 Franklin & Marshall Wednesday in the first game at the new Carlini Field. She totaled seven saves in the second half to help force overtime. She added three first half saves as Catholic jumped out to a 14-3 halftime lead in its win over Elizabethtown in the Landmark Conference opener for both teams. She also had four ground balls while picking up two wins.

Athlete of the Week - Jennifer Sweeney, Scranton

Athlete of the Week - Jennifer Sweeney, Scranton

Scranton sophomore Jennifer Sweeney was dominant at the plate on the week, as she notched six multiple-hit games as the Royals went 5-1, winning their last five contests of the week. Her best game came against Juniata on Sunday, as she went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and a season-best six RBI, while also smacking a grand slam in the fourth inning of the game. She also hit a three-run home run against Marywood on Wednesday in an eventual 12-1 win. On the week, she hit .684 (13-for-19) with three doubles, three homeruns, 17 RBI, three walks, and one stolen base.

Pitcher of the Week - Meghan Bauer, Moravian

Pitcher of the Week - Meghan Bauer, Moravian

(So., P - Perkasie, Pa.)

Moravian sophomore Meghan Bauer earned her first career victory and shutout and pitched in both games of the Greyhounds' Landmark Conference sweep at Elizabethtown College. She did not allow a run and scattered three hits and five walks while striking out 11 batters over seven innings of work. Bauer struck out all three batters she faced in the final inning of a 10-1 win in the opener. She then added eight more strikeouts in a 9-0, 6-inning shutout in game two.

Men's Athlete of the Week - Slade Dumas, Goucher

Men's Athlete of the Week - Slade Dumas, Goucher

(Jr., - Great Falls, Va.)

Goucher junior Slade Dumas went a perfect combined 10-0 in the week between singles and doubles. The junior was 3-0 in the No. 5 singles spot against three teams that participated in the NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Tournament and won a match in the national stage last year. In those matches, the Gophers won by getting to five individual victories first and he posted two of those wins in each match including the clinching match against Hope College on Tuesday. Dumas moved up to the No. 4 singles position in his last two matches of the week and the winning continued with a 2-0 mark in that spot.

Women's Athlete of the Week - Emma Angle, Moravian

Moravian sophomore Emma Angle helped the Greyhounds open the 2019 Landmark Conference season with a 6-3 victory over Elizabethtown College. Angle combined with junior Eiman Nazif for an 8-7 (8-6) win at first doubles for the Greyhounds' only point in doubles action. She then won in straight sets at first singles to earn the first of five singles wins by Moravian to take the match.

Men's Track Athlete of the Week - Sam Niles, Elizabethtown

Men's Track Athlete of the Week - Sam Niles, Elizabethtown

Elizabethtown freshman sprinter Sam Niles had a great day at the Early Bird Opener. Despite the cold temperatures and constant gusts, Niles ran 11.41 to take second in the 100m and dipped below 23 seconds in the 200m for a second-place finish in the 200m at 22.97. He also ran a leg on the winning 4x400m relay that ran 3:32.30.

Men's Field Athlete of the Week - Ryan Harper, Moravian

Moravian junior Ryan Harper finished third in the hammer throw with a career-best toss of 46.52 meters (152-7) as the Greyhounds began the 2019 outdoor season at the West Chester University Golden Ram Invitational.

Women's Track Athlete of the Week - Kiera Lyons, Catholic

Women's Track Athlete of the Week - Kiera Lyons, Catholic

(Sr., Harwood, Md.)

At the Goucher College Classic, Catholic senior Kiera Lyons posted three top-five finishes. In the 400m hurdles, Lyons crossed the finish line in 1:12.92 to capture first-place. She placed second in the 3000m steeplechase (12:14.56) and helped the 4x400m relay team to a third place finish (4:28.82).

Women's Field Athlete of the Week - Kylie Orndorf, Juniata

(Sr., Milheim, Pa.)

Juniata senior Kylie Orndorf had four top-five finishes at the Juniata Invitational. The senior placed first in the javelin (40.0m), second in the shotput (10.06m), second on the dicus (33.65m), and was fourth in the hammer throw (37.94m). Her javelin throw ranks first in the Landmark and to date, is eighth in all of NCAA Division III.
