Landmark Volleyball Awards Announced
TOWSON, Md. – The Landmark Conference released its 2018 All-Landmark women's volleyball teams and conference award winners Tuesday. The conferences' eight head coaches selected this year's All-Landmark teams and league's annual award winners.
For the second straight year, Juniata College senior Marybeth Weihbrecht is the Landmark Player of the Year, while teammates Katie Byrne and Moira Folan collected Specialist and Rookie of the Year honors respectfully.
Weihbrecht keeps Juniata's streak alive, as an Eagle has earned Player of the Year honors since becoming affiliated with the league in 2007.
Landmark Coach of the Year honors went to Juniata's Heather Pavlik.
Weihbrecht helped Juniata compile a 24-3 over record and 6-0 mark in the league this season, earning the No. 1 seed in last weekend's Landmark Championship. The Eagles won its 12th straight title, defeating Susquehanna, 3-0.
A two-time All-Landmark First Team selection, Weihbrecht led the league while ranking third among all NCAA Division III counterparts with a .420 hitting percentage (198-37-368) this season.
A three-time All-Landmark First Team selection, Byrne earns her second Specialist of the Year award. She totaled 386 digs, which ranks her eighth. Her 4.24 digs per set average currently sits her third in the league.
Folan has appeared in 26 matches (84 sets) this season for league champion Juniata. She's hitting .266 while dishing out 478 assists, which ranks her seventh in the Landmark.
Pavlik led Juniata to its 12th straight championship this season. The Eagles swept second-seeding Susquehanna University. She is receiving the honor for the fifth time in 12 years.
Four honorees are a repeat selection from a year ago. Joining Juniata's Byrne and Weihbrecht are Elizabethtown' Mackenzie Garner, and Scranton's Kristin Kirwan. Kirwan, who became the Landmark's all-time kills leader, finishes her career with 1,823 kills.
