Landmark Announces Women's Soccer Awards
TOWSON, Md. – Elizabethtown College junior forward Lydia Lawson has been named the Landmark Offensive Player of the Year for the second straight year. University of Scranton's Rebecca Russo earned Defensive Player of the Year accolades.
Lawson finished the regular season with a league-leading 16 goals and was second with seven assists. She scored at least one goal in 10 of the Blue Jays 16 games this season, including a season-best three in the 4-0 win against Juniata.
Russo is the seventh Royal to earn Defensive Player of the Year honors, joining Laura Gibbons (2007), Caitlin Byrne (2010), Amanda Kresge (2011), Erin Casey (2013), Jasmine Sconciafurno (2015), and Carolyn Warner (2016). Russo anchors a Royal's defense that has allowed seven goals this season, one against Landmark teams, and helped post 11 shutouts this season. Scranton earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament.
Scranton led the All-Landmark selections with six players being recognized. Three players were repeat All-Landmark honorees among the First Team selections. Jamie Hreniuk earns her third honor on the First Team. The senior ranks second in the league with seven goals and is second with 22 points. Colleen Berry earns her second nod on the First Team. Berry, like Russo, was instrumental in helping the Royals defense post a goals against average of 0.36. Berry allowed just six goals this season.
Five Susquehanna players earned All-Landmark honors, including four on the First Team. Emily Sullivan is a repeat selection for the River Hawks as is Katie Beluch. Marley Clendenin is earning the honors for the first time in her career. First-year forward Anna Werner is the Landmark Rookie of the Year. She is the first River Hawk to earn the honor. Werner led the team in goals with seven and tied for third with two assists. Of her seven goals, four have been game-winning.
Drew University midfielder Alex Gilgorri earns her second First Team honor. Gilgorri scored six goals for the Rangers this season, ranking her second on the team. She also dished out three assists.
Junior defender Mackenzie Earley of Catholic University earns her first All-Landmark First Team honor of her career. Earley started in 17 games for the Cardinals and helped anchor a backline that posted a goals against average of 1.07.
Moravian College senior Gabby Stelzmiller earns her second First Team accolade. The senior was second on the team with five goals, and dished out a team-leading 10 assists. For her career, she has scored 16 goals, has 18 assists, and has had four game-winners.
Scranton head coach Colleen Pivirotto is the Landmark Coach of the Year for the third time in her career. She won the honor in 2010 and 2013. Scranton advanced to the Landmark Conference Women's Soccer Championship match for the ninth straight season under Pivirotto's direction.
