Jones Honored as Landmark Senior Scholar Athlete
TOWSON, Md. - Patrick Jones of The Catholic University of America men's swimming & diving team has been selected by the Landmark Conference as the sport's Senior Scholar Athlete.
Jones was also selected as the Senior Scholar Athlete for cross country this past fall and is the first student-athlete in Landmark history to receive this award in two different sports. He is the third Catholic men's swimmer to garner the Senior Scholar Athlete award following last years recipient, Guido Saccaggi and Caleb Capozella in 2014.
The Hagerstown, Md., native boasts a 3.77 cumulative grade point average as a mechanical engineering major. Jones has been a four-year contributor the Catholic men's swimming & diving team which won the Landmark Conference Championships his junior and senior year.
Jones was the eighth-place finisher in the 200-freestyle (1:48.97) and 11th place finisher in the 500-freestyle (5:00.96) and 1650-freestyle (17:59.12) during the 2017 Landmark Conference Championships where Catholic claimed their first league title.
During his freshman and sophomore seasons, Jones finished among the top-13 in both the 200-freestyle and 1650-freestyle events.
Jones is currently a Robotics Development Intern at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Md., where he assists in the Satellite Servicing Projects Division. Additionally, he spent the summer of 2016 as a mechanical intern with Shapiro And Duncan Mechanical Contractor in Rockville, Md.
Along with his off-campus internships, Jones was a research assistant in the Catholic University Computer Vision Lab during his freshman and junior years.
Jones has made the Dean's List and the Landmark Conference Honor Roll each of his eligible semesters and is a member of the Phi Eta Sigma Academic Honor Society.
The Landmark Conference selects 22 senior scholar athletes each year to recognize the top student-athlete in each sport based on academics and athletics.
The honorees must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.20 and are selected by a committee of Landmark Conference officers, athletics directors, faculty athletic representatives, senior woman administrators, and sports information directors.
