Women's Tennis Awards for 2017-18 Season Announced
TOWSON, Md. — The University of Scranton swept the Landmark Women's Tennis major awards as Julia Frattaroli was named the Player of the Year, Tatiana Klacko earned Rookie of the Year, and Janice Winslow was named Coach of the Year.
Frattaroli added a few more honors to an already decorated career by being named the Landmark Conference Player of the Year as well as First Team All-Conference for both singles and doubles. The senior took a 16-7 singles record into this spring’s NCAA Tournament with a 12-5 mark at #1 doubles while going 6-1 against Landmark Conference foes. Frattaroli, who was named the Landmark Conference Championship MVP, was also 18-5 in doubles matches with a 6-1 record in league play. Frattaroli, who is now a four-time First Team All-Conference doubles honoree and a three-time First Team All-Conference singles selection, is the first Scranton player to earn Landmark Conference Player of the Year accolades.
Klacko was named the Landmark Conference Rookie of the Year after an outstanding rookie season in which she also garnered First Team All-Conference doubles and Second Team All-Conference singles accolades. The freshman posted a 10-5 record in singles matches entering the NCAA Tournament while going 6-1 against Landmark Conference opponents. Klacko, who competed primarily at #4 singles, also went 16-3 in doubles play this year including a perfect 7-0 mark against conference opponents while playing all but one match at #2 doubles. Klacko is the first Royal to be named the Landmark Conference Rookie of the Year since Emily Walsh picked up the award in 2013.
Winslow was honored as the Landmark Conference Coach of the Year after leading Scranton to a record-setting year in the 2017-18 season. The fifth-year head coach guided the Royals to an impressive turnaround this season, turning last season’s 8-9 (4-3 Landmark) record into a school record 18-3 (7-0 Landmark) record this spring and the program’s first conference championship and NCAA Tournament appearance since 2014. Winslow is Scranton’s first coach to be named the Landmark Conference Coach of the Year.
