TOWSON, Md. – The Catholic University of American’s Jenna Gietl has been selected as the 2018 Landmark Women’s Tennis Senior Scholar Athlete. She becomes the first Cardinal to earn senior scholar women’s tennis accolades.
She joins Kelly Cousoulis (Field Hockey), Patrick Jones (Men’s Cross Country & Swimming & Diving), Matthew Holtschneider (Men’s Soccer), Danny O’Hagan (Baseball), and Bennett Bradley (Men’s Lacrosse) as a senior scholar honoree.
In 2017-18, Gietl played at number one doubles and singles for the majority of the year, finishing with a 9-12 record in singles and an 11-11 mark with partner Erin Cole.
She finished her career named to the Landmark First Team Singles and Second Team Doubles and helped the Cardinals defeat No. 2 Moravian in the Landmark semifinal match.
Off the court, Gietl has recorded a 3.93 GPA at Catholic as a Mechanical Engineer major. She has volunteered in different organizations on campus, including, MLK Day of Service, Halloween on Campus for local youth, Special Olympics, and is a member of So Other Might Eat (SOME), Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), and the Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society philanthropy.
The Landmark Conference selects 22 senior scholar athletes each year to recognize the top student-athlete in each sport based on academics and athletics.
The honorees must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.20 and selected by a committee of Landmark Conference officers, athletics directors, faculty athletic representatives, senior woman administrators, and sports information directors.
