Cranney Named Women's Golf Senior Scholar Athlete
2018 Senior Scholar Athletes
TOWSON, Md. – Senior Julie Cranney has excelled on the golf course and in the classroom since The University of Scranton added women's golf in the fall of 2016. As a result, Cranney has been named the Landmark Conference Senior Scholar Athlete for women's golf.
Cranney was a mainstay in the Royals' lineup from the moment they played the first women's golf match in school history on Sept. 13, 2016. In two seasons, she helped the team post a 12-7-1 record as she earned six match play victories and averaged 103.9 in seven stroke-play rounds.
This season, Cranney was named All-Landmark Conference Second Team after she shot 97-108 – 205 over two days to finish 11th.
In the classroom, Cranney has maintained a 3.79 cumulative grade-point average while majoring in occupational therapy. She earned Dean's List honors in all seven semesters so far and will graduate this weekend and continue pursuing her master's in occupational therapy at Scranton.
Cranney is also an Alpha Epsilon Delta honor society member and a Loyola Scholarship recipient. She earned Landmark Conference Academic Honor Roll accolades this spring, was a two-year team captain and is a member of the athletic department's Emerging Leaders program.
The Landmark Conference selects 22 senior scholar athletes each year to recognize the top student-athlete in each sport based on academics and athletics.
The honorees must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.20 and selected by a committee of Landmark Conference officers, athletics directors, faculty athletic representatives, senior woman administrators, and sports information directors.
