Landmark Announces Major Track & Field Award Winners
TOWSON, Md. – The seven Landmark outdoor track & field coaches made their major award selections immediately following the conclusion of this past weekend's championship meet.
Men's Track Athlete of the Year - Samuel Gerstenbacher (Elizabethtown)
Men's Field Athlete of the Year – Chris Petraskie (Susquehanna)
Men's Rookie of the Year – Zion Howad (Moravian)
Women's Track Athlete of the Year – Anna Osman (Moravian)
Women's Field Athlete of the Year – Trista Cunningham (Moravian)
Women's Rookie of the Year – Caroline Banas (Scranton)
Men's and Women's Coach of the Year – Jesse Baumann (Moravian)
Gerstenbacher displayed his talents all weekend for Elizabethtown. The sophomore earned two trips to the top of the podium on Sunday in the 5,000-meter run and the 3,000-meter steeplechase. His time of 9:20.72 in the steeple set a new championship and facility record. He added a pair of golds on Sunday while setting a new championship and facility record. On Saturday, he earned his first gold medal of the meet, running a 3:59.45 in the 1,500-meter run.
Petraskie won three events over the weekend. Petraskie won the long jump (6.72 meters) Saturday and then posted wins in the triple jump (13.56 meters) and the high jump (1.95 meters) Sunday to cap the weekend. The sophomore was also named the Landmark Indoor Field Athlete of the Year.
Howard was one of two Greyhounds that won two titles. He won the 100-meter dash in 10.89 seconds and he captured the 200-meter dash in 21.85 seconds. Howard was also part of both of the Greyhounds' relay teams that finished in second place. He helped Moravian to a runner-up finish in the 4x100-meter relay in 52.61 seconds, and was second place in the final event, the 4x400-meter relay in a time of 3:21.11.
Osman was one of two Greyhounds what won three events on Sunday. The junior won the 400-meter dash in 59.31 seconds and captured the gold for the third straight year in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:06.15. She was also on the winning 4x400-meter relay team that ran a 49.61. Osman took home her fourth medal of the meet after she helped the 4x400-meter relay team to a second place finish, crossing the line in 4:08.02. She was also runner-up in the 100-meter hurdles in 15.71 seconds for her fifth medal.
Cunningham was second in the hammer throw with a toss of 43.78 meters (143-8) on Sunday. She won the discus title for the third straight year with a meet record toss of 41.37 meters (135-9) the day before and picked up the gold in the shot put with a toss of 12.08 meters (39-7.75).
Banas won the high jump by clearing 1.62 meters (5 feet, 3.75 inches), which matched the championship record, held by three different athletes. Banas also won gold at the indoor championships in February and went on to earn All-American status by finishing seventh at the NCAA Indoor Championships. The gold was the second podium finish of the weekend for Banas, who was sixth in the long jump on Saturday.
Baumann and his staff earned their fourth men's Coaching Staff of the Year honors and fifth on the women's side.
First Team All-Landmark honors are awarded to student-athletes who finish first at the Landmark Championships while second place finishers earn Second Team All-Landmark recognition. The full list of honorees is available below.
