Landmark Announces Women's Soccer Awards
TOWSON, Md. – Elizabethtown College senior Lydia Lawson and Susquehanna University junior Madi Welliver were named the 2019 Landmark Women's Soccer Offensive & Defensive Player of the Year respectively. Lawson's teammate Trinity Soto earned Rookie of the Year honors while Blue Jay head coach Amy Hough received Coach of the Year accolades.
For the third time in four years, Lawson has been named the conference's Offensive Player of the Year. In the Landmark's 13-year history, she is the only player to earn the award three times and is the only Blue Jay to earn the honor. The senior finished her final season on a high note, scoring a league-leading 22 goals and 49 points, and set multiple Landmark records. Lawson finishes her impressive career as the Landmark career record holder in goals (62) and points (137). She is also the season record holder in conference matches with 11 goals and 24 points.
Welliver, the first-ever River Hawk to earn Defensive Player of the Year accolades, helped the River Hawks to a 14-4-2 overall record and a 6-1-0 mark in conference. She guided a defense to 11 shutouts and allowed just eight goals for a goal against average of 0.46. Against conference opponents, Welliver allowed four goals.
The Blue Jays earned another first, with Soto's selection as Rookie of the Year. She is the program's first selection since joining the Landmark in 2014. Soto led the league in saves (78) and ranked fourth in goals against (16) and fifth in goal against average (.97).
Since taking over in 2016, Hough has guided the Blue Jays to two Landmark playoff appearances, including being the No. 2 seed in this year's tournament. This is the first Coach of the Year honor for Hough and the Blue Jays.
