Landmark Releases Women's Golf Awards
TOWSON, Md. – For the second straight year, a Drew University women’s golfer has taken home Player of the Year honors, with sophomore Lucy Lamb being the 2019 recipient. Catholic University shared Co-Rookie of the Year honors between Tess Murphy and Mary Colella, and Drew head coach Maura Ballard was voted Coach of the Year.
Lamb’s performance on Sunday included six pars, four birdies, and an eagle on the par-5, 15th hole. She finished with a 152, smashing her own school record for 36 holes by 13 strokes. With a 73, she sliced six strokes from her previous school record (79) for 18 holes, a mark that she equaled on Saturday while playing through ferocious wind.
The conference runner-up at the inaugural Landmark Conference Women's Golf Championship last season, Lamb ended the tournament with an exclamation mark, sinking a 15-foot putt in front of the spectator gallery.
Freshman Mary Colella and sophomore Tess Murphy tied for second out of 39 total golfers with a 177 score. Murphy shot a 90 on day one to position herself in second place overall. She then shot 87 on Sunday for a 177 (+33) overall score. The sophomore from Rockville Centre, N.Y. carded the second-most pars in the competition, behind Lamb, with 14. Murphy also had the third-best Par 4 (4.92) and Par 5 (5.75) scoring averages in the tournament.
Colella finished alongside Murphy in second after shooting a 92 and 85 to also score 177 (+33). She was the only golfer to shoot three birdies in the championship rounds, one short of Lamb's four. The freshman also had the fourth-best par-3 scoring, shooting a 3.58 average (+7).
Ballard led the women's team to successful inaugural season in 2017-18 and followed that up with another successful season in 2019. The Rangers placed second at the Landmark Conference Championships in 2018 before capturing the 2019 title by 41 strokes. To date, Ballard has placed six on the Landmark All-Conference teams.
