Diana Named Men's S&D Senior Scholar Athlete
TOWSON, Md. – The Landmark Conference selects 22 senior scholar athletes each year to recognize the top student-athlete in each sport based on academics and athletics.
The honorees must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.20 and are selected by a committee of Landmark Conference officers, athletics directors, senior woman administrators, faculty athletic representatives, and sports information directors. Chosen at the end of each sport season, the winter sport honorees will be announced over the next week.
For the second straight season, a member of The University of Scranton men's swimming & diving team has been named the Landmark Conference's Senior Scholar Athlete for the sport, as senior Michael Diana earned the 2019-20 award from the conference.
Joining Michael Ambrose (2014-15) and Michael Ramsthaler (2018-19) as previous Landmark Senior Scholar Athlete winners, Diana has posted a 3.90 career grade point average (GPA) as a Psychology and Counseling & Human Services major.
Competitively, Diana ends his time at Scranton as one of the program's best divers ever, taking Landmark Conference men's Diver of the Year accolades twice during his career in 2017 and 2019.
An eight-time All-Landmark Conference selection, Diana nabbed six First Team accolades throughout his career, sweeping the one and three-meter diving events at both the 2017 and 2019 Landmark Conference Championships. He also ends his career as a Royal program record holder in the one-meter dive (373.40), which he notched during the 2018 Landmark Championships.
Outside of the pool, Diana has been named to The University of Scranton's Dean's List on seven different occasions, and in May of 2019 was inducted into Pi Gamma Mu, the international honor society in social science. In August of last year, Diana was also one of the 11 University of Scranton undergraduate students awarded President's Fellowships for Summer Research. During the term, he researched "Exploring the cognitive ripple effect" with Jessica Nolan, Ph.D., associate professor of psychology.
He has also served as a swim instructor at the YMCA, teaching children how to both swim and dive.
