Castronova Named Landmark Men's Golf Senior Scholar Athlete
TOWSON, Md. --- Drew University senior Anthony Castronova has been selected as the 2020 Landmark Conference Senior Scholar Athlete for Men’s Golf.
The Landmark Conference selects 22 senior scholar athletes each year to recognize the top student-athlete in each sport based on academics and athletics.
The honorees must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.20 and are selected by a committee of Landmark Conference officers, athletics directors, faculty athletic representatives, senior woman administrators, and sports information directors.
Castronova has been a steady performer for the Drew men's golf team over its first three years as a varsity sport. He has shot more rounds (31) than any other Ranger and helped his team capture runner-up honors at the 2019 Landmark Conference Championships, where he tied for 13th and shot a career-low 76 in the final round. He also broke 80 on two other occasions, including the 2019 Drew Spring Brook Invitational, where he tied for fifth with a 79. He was the first four-year member of the Drew men's golf program, which competed at the club level in 2016-17.
Away from the course, the team co-captain is a Biology major and Public Health minor and has earned a spot on the Landmark Conference Academic Honor Roll in each of the past three years. For over a year, he has volunteered for Jersey Cares, donating his time for projects such as litter cleanup, donation sorting, and work to revitalize and beautify parks, gardens, and green spaces throughout New Jersey. He also volunteered for Market Street Mission in Morristown, N.J., working with the homeless population and serving food.
Castronova was a Dean's List recipient and a member of Drew's Pre-Health Society. In the summer of 2019, he interned with the New York College of Podiatric Medicine, where he will be attending medical school this coming fall.
