Scranton's DeNunzio Selected as Landmark Women's Tennis Senior Scholar Athlete
TOWSON, Md. – The Landmark Conference selects 22 senior scholar athletes each year to recognize the top student-athlete in each sport based on academics and athletics.
The honorees must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.20 and are selected by a committee of Landmark Conference officers, athletics directors, senior woman administrators, faculty athletic representatives, and sports information directors.
DeNunzio boasts an impressive 3.74 grade point average as a biology major and will earn a degree from Scranton at the end of the month. The Dunmore, Pa., native is a three-time member of the Landmark Conference Academic Honor Roll and also enjoyed an outstanding career on the court for the Royals.
DeNunzio ranks sixth all-time in program history in doubles wins (42) and eighth in singles wins (41). She was named the 2019 Landmark Conference Player of the Year and is also a two-time All-Conference First Team selection in singles and doubles play along with being a second team selection as a freshman in 2017. DeNunzio has gone 16-5 (.762) in both Landmark Conference singles and doubles matches over the last three seasons.
As a sophomore in 2018, DeNunzio helped lead Scranton to an 8-2 victory over Catholic in the Landmark Conference championship match and the team went on to defeat Gwynedd Mercy by a score of 8-4 in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament.
