Elizabethtown's Manning Selected as Landmark Baseball Senior Scholar Athlete

TOWSON, Md. – The Landmark Conference selects 22 senior scholar athletes each year to recognize the top student-athlete in each sport based on academics and athletics.

The honorees must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.20 and are selected by a committee of Landmark Conference officers, athletics directors, senior woman administrators, faculty athletic representatives, and sports information directors.

Derek Manning is the third Blue Jay to garner the Landmark Baseball Senior Scholar Athlete award, joining Kristopher Davis (2015) and Anthony Knight (2019). Manning is Elizabethtown's second winner this year, joining Lydia Lawson of women's basketball.

An East Petersburg, Pa. native, Manning continues to add to his list of academic awards. He is the only two-time CoSIDA First Team Academic All-American in school history and is currently on the ballot to earn First Team honors for the third time in his career. Manning is a three-time Landmark Conference Spring Academic Honor Roll selection as well.

Manning completes an outstanding career on the field as well, collecting ABCA Third Team All-America accolades in 2018 while being named Landmark Conference Player of the Year in the same season. He is a two-time All-Region selection from both the ABCA and D3Baseball.com and a First Team All-Landmark honoree.

An offensive juggernaut, Manning finishes his run with the Blue Jays with a .430 batting average and 169 hits. He also tallied 99 RBI and runs scored, 54 doubles and 13 home runs.

Manning will graduate with a 4.00 grade point average this spring with a degree in Computer Science and has accepted a full-scholarship into the University of Wisconsin Computer Science PHD program.
