Hoffmann Named Women's Cross Country Senior Scholar Athlete
TOWSON Md. – The Landmark Conference selects 22 senior scholar-athletes each year to recognize the top student-athlete in each sport based on academics and athletics.
The honorees must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.20 and are selected by a committee of Landmark Conference officers, athletics directors, senior woman administrators, faculty athletic representatives, and sports information directors.
Jessica Hoffmann is the second in the history of the University of Scranton women's cross country program to nab Landmark Senior Scholar-Athlete honors and will now automatically be considered for the conference's Overall Senior Scholar Athlete award that will be announced in the spring. Stephanie Huth first earned the honor in 2009-10.
The Millington, N.J., native will compete at tomorrow's NCAA Championship meet that is being held at E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park in Louisville, Ky. She finished 10th among 218 runners at last Saturday's NCAA Mideast Regional meet and was one of seven individuals in Region IV (Mid-Atlantic) to earn an individual qualifier bid to NCAAs.
Hoffmann is one of three Royals in school history to qualify for the national championship meet following Theresa Meade (1984) and Abigail Corrigan (2017).
She captured the Landmark Conference individual championship with a time of 22:58.7 and was selected as Landmark Performer of the Year.
On the season, Hoffmann has finished in the top-10 in all six races to make it a career tally of 10 top-10 finishes over three seasons. She is a two-time All-Landmark Conference performer after finishing seventh at the conference championship meet as a sophomore in 2019.
Hoffmann also boasts an impressive 3.79 grade point average as an Exercise Science major and will be a three-time Landmark Conference Academic Honor Roll member.
