Benadon Named Field Hockey Senior Scholar Athlete
TOWSON Md. – The Landmark Conference selects 22 senior scholar-athletes each year to recognize the top student-athlete in each sport based on academics and athletics.
The honorees must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.20 and are selected by a committee of Landmark Conference officers, athletics directors, senior woman administrators, faculty athletic representatives, and sports information directors.
Senior Allie Benadon of The University of Scranton field hockey team became the second consecutive member of the program to win the Landmark Conference Field Hockey Senior Scholar-Athlete Award. Benadon's award follows Megan Gallagher who was the recipient of the award last year and is the third student-athlete in program history to receive the honor. Gretchen Kempf was the other winner for the Royals in 2012-13.
Benadon capped her career by leading Scranton to consecutive Landmark Conference championship and the program's first NCAA Tournament win this season with a 3-2 overtime victory over Ursinus on Nov. 10 as the Royals advanced to the Sweet 16.
Additionally, the Royals also set a single-season program record with 18 wins in 2021 and were ranked No. 18 in the most recent NFHCA Coaches Poll that was released before the NCAA Tournament.
In the classroom, Allie has excelled as a Human Resources major and boasts a 3.89 grade point average. She is a six-time University of Scranton Dean's List honoree, a three-time member of the Landmark Conference Academic Honor Roll, and she is a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), and the Society for Human Resource Management.
