Elizabethtown's Christ Named Women's Basketball Senior Scholar Athlete
TOWSON Md. – The Landmark Conference selects 22 senior scholar athletes each year to recognize the top student-athlete in each sport based on academics and athletics.
The honorees must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.20 and are selected by a committee of Landmark Conference officers, athletics directors, senior woman administrators, faculty athletic representatives, and sports information directors.
Elizabethtown College senior Veronica Christ is the third Blue Jay to earn Women’s Basketball Senior Scholar accolades. Christ joins Emma Hoesman (2018) and Lydia Lawson (2020).
Christ made an immediate impact on the team and in the conference as a freshman in 2017-18. She started over half of the team’s games and was voted the Landmark Rookie of the Year after averaging 9.5 points per game and 4.8 rebounds per game.
She helped Etown tie a program best with 11 conference wins the following season and earn a spot in the Landmark Championship, the first appearance for the Blue Jays since joining the conference.
Christ posted 14.2 points per game and 5.0 rebounds per game as a sophomore and ranked seventh in the Landmark in scoring. She was named All-Landmark First Team as a result.
In 2019-20, Christ’s ascension to one of the top players in the conference, and region, continued. As a junior, she averaged career-highs in scoring and rebounding with 17.0ppg and 6.0rpg. She ranked second in the Landmark in points per game and had a pair of 28-point performances against Moravian and Scranton, her single-game high.
Christ also etched her name into program history when she became the 28th player all-time to reach the 1,000-point plateau, a feat she reached in less than three years of action. She was a three-time Athlete of the Week in 2019-20 and ranked top 10 in the conference in free throw percentage, steals, block, and three-point percentage along with being one of the league’s top scorers.
To cap off her impressive season, Christ earned not only a second straight nod on the All-Landmark First Team, but also a spot on the All-Mid-Atlantic Region Second Team.
While producing on the court, Christ was also efficient in the classroom, with a 3.64 cumulative grade point average as an Occupational Therapy major. Christ is also a Dean’s List honoree as well as a two-time selection to the Landmark Winter Academic Honor Roll.
Currently, Christ ranks 26th in Elizabethtown program history with 1,031 points.
