Zimmerman Named Men's Soccer Senior Scholar Athlete
TOWSON Md. – The Landmark Conference selects 22 senior scholar athletes each year to recognize the top student-athlete in each sport based on academics and athletics.
The honorees must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.20 and are selected by a committee of Landmark Conference officers, athletics directors, senior woman administrators, faculty athletic representatives, and sports information directors.
Catholic University's Nelson Zimmerman was named the Landmark Men's Soccer Senior Scholar Athlete. Zimmerman is only the second Catholic men's soccer athlete to garner the award, joining Matthew Holtschneider (2017-18). He is the 39th Cardinal to be honored since the conference's inception in 2007.
A three-time Landmark Conference Fall Academic Honor Roll selection, Zimmerman is currently working on his masters degree in architecture after receiving his bachelor's degree in May 2020. He posted a perfect 4.00 GPA in his first semester of graduate school.
On the field, Zimmerman played in 53 of the team's 59 games while making 40 starts from 2017-20. He totaled 21 points with seven goals and seven assists as a midfielder with career-high five as a junior in 2019. As a freshman he was named to the All-Landmark Conference Second Team in 2017.
Catholic posted a 36-16-7 overall record, including a mark of 16-3-2 in the Landmark Conference. The Cardinals appeared in three consecutive Landmark Conference Men's Soccer Championship tournaments and back-to-back title games in 2018 and 2019. They won conference championship in 2019, posting an 18-3-1 record while being ranked as high as No. 10 in the nation and hosting the first two rounds of the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championship.
