Schoener Named Men's Cross Country Senior Scholar Athlete

TOWSON Md. – The Landmark Conference selects 22 senior scholar athletes each year to recognize the top student-athlete in each sport based on academics and athletics.

The honorees must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.20 and are selected by a committee of Landmark Conference officers, athletics directors, senior woman administrators, faculty athletic representatives, and sports information directors.

Elizabethtown College's Will Schoener was voted the Men's Cross Country Senior Scholar Athlete. Schoener joins Dan Gresh (2014-15) and Zach Trama (2015-16) to be selected.

Schoener developed into a scoring member for Elizabethtown as a junior in 2019 at the Landmark Conference Championships, where he finished a career-best fifth to help the Blue Jays to another conference championship. The performance also earned him a place on the All-Landmark First Team.

A few weeks later, Schoener went on to an All-Mideast Region performance for Etown at the 2019 NCAA Division III Mideast Regional. He ran an 8K personal best that day on the Lehigh University course, finishing 24th overall in 25:32.2. Schoener was one of four Blue Jays to earn all-region distinction.

Schoener was recently named to the 2020 All-Landmark Conference Sportsmanship Team for men's cross country. He has also earned three consecutive appearances on the Landmark's Fall Academic Honor Roll as well as the honor of being a 2019 USTFCCCA All-Academic Individual. Including Schoener, an engineering major at Elizabethtown, the men's cross country team has been a USTFCCCA All-Academic Team all four years of his time with the program.
