Landmark Releases 2020-21 Men's Tennis Awards
TOWSON, Md. – University of Scranton senior Tarquin McGurrin becomes the fourth Royal to be voted the Landmark Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Year. He is joined by Catholic University's Allan Van Nostrand and Drew University Head Coach Scott Veith who were named Rookie and Coach of the Year respectively.
McGurrin has had a stellar career as a member of the Scranton men's tennis program. He posted a perfect 8-0 conference record playing at first singles and combined for a doubles record of 8-0 with partners Patrick O'Mara and James Harington. He finishes his career with 38 singles victories and 34 doubles triumphs, both of which rank in the top-10 in the history of the Royals' program.
Nostrand is just one of two freshmen to make the all-conference teams. He finished the regular season with a 5-2 record at No. 2 singles and partnered with fellow Second Team selection Frankie Fortunati at No. 1 doubles where the duo went 4-3 in conference play. He is only the second Cardinal to earn Rookie of the Year honors, joining Daniel Valverde (2010).
Veith has guided the Rangers to a perfect 10-0 record, and he steered the Blue and Green to their first Landmark Conference title since 2013. His team remained unbeaten despite the absence of numerous international team members this semester as well as several other key players who missed significant action. Veith becomes Drew's second Landmark Men's Tennis Coach of the Year, as Jeff Brandes earned the award in 2008, 2011, and 2012. It is also the second career Coach of the Year award for Veith, who was also honored by the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom Conference as the men's head coach at FDU-Florham in 2004.
