Laurendeau Named Men's Golf Senior Scholar Athlete

TOWSON, Md. – The Landmark Conference selects 22 senior scholar athletes each year to recognize the top student-athlete in each sport based on academics and athletics.

The honorees must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.20 and are selected by a committee of Landmark Conference officers, athletics directors, senior woman administrators, faculty athletic representatives, and sports information directors.

Matthew Laurendeau of Catholic University is the first Cardinal to garner Landmark Men's Golf Senior Scholar Athlete honors. Laurendeau is Catholic's second winner this year, joining Nelson Zimmerman of the men's soccer program.

A two-time Landmark Conference Spring Academic Honor Roll selection, Laurendeau graduated last month with a 3.60 grade point average and a bachelor's degree in finance.

Laurendeau is the second player to graduate from the men's golf program since its reinstatement in 2018. After finishing tied for 22nd at the Landmark Conference Men's Golf Championship in 2019, he finished fifth in 2021 to earn All-Landmark Conference First Team honors as the Cardinals won their first championship to qualify for the team's first NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championship.

Laurendeau posted a 78.13 scoring average in eight rounds this season, an improvement of five strokes over his first year in 2018-19. In 25 career rounds, he finished with an 81.20 scoring average.
