Masseria Named Women's Golf Senior Scholar Athlete

TOWSON, Md. – The Landmark Conference selects 22 senior scholar athletes each year to recognize the top student-athlete in each sport based on academics and athletics.

The honorees must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.20 and are selected by a committee of Landmark Conference officers, athletics directors, senior woman administrators, faculty athletic representatives, and sports information directors.

Kristine Masseria of Drew University is the first Ranger to garner Landmark Women's Golf Senior Scholar Athlete honors and is the second Drew student-athlete this academic year. She follows Matheus Macena who earned the Men's Swimming & Diving honor earlier this winter.

Throughout her career, Masseria has played a major role in the success of the Drew University women's golf team during its first four years as a varsity program. She joined the squad as a freshman during the program's inaugural varsity season in 2017-18 and is its first four-year team member.

Masseria made an immediate impact during her first year at the Forest and captured Second-Team All-Landmark Conference recognition after placing seventh at the inaugural Landmark Conference Women's Golf Championships, helping the Rangers to a runner-up finish. She won the same award one year later, when she finished eighth at the conference championship while helping the Rangers win their first Landmark Conference title, winning by 41 strokes. The team would go on to make its debut at the NCAA Division III Championships to close out the season.

As a junior, Masseria was averaging a career-best 89.9 over her first nine rounds before the rest of the season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. She helped the Rangers capture their second-straight Landmark Conference title by virtue of their victory at the Landmark Conference Fall Preview, where Masseria was the runner-up, after the Landmark Conference Championship was canceled.

For her career, Masseria averaged a 91.8 over 40 rounds and shot below 90 on 13 occasions. She carded a career-low 81 as a junior at the Pfeiffer Invitational.

A two-year team captain, Masseria also served on Drew's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

A physics major and art minor, Masseria was a Baldwin Honors Scholar who was a member of Sigma Pi Sigma (physics honor society). A Dean's List honoree, she was also a member of Drew's Society of Physics Students and an INTO Drew University partner, communicating with international students to help improve their English skills.

Masseria is a two-time Landmark Conference Academic Honor Roll recipient and is expected to be named to the list once again this season.
