McGurrin Named Men's Tennis Senior Scholar Athlete
TOWSON, Md. – The Landmark Conference selects 22 senior scholar athletes each year to recognize the top student-athlete in each sport based on academics and athletics.
The honorees must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.20 and are selected by a committee of Landmark Conference officers, athletics directors, senior woman administrators, faculty athletic representatives, and sports information directors.
Tarquin McGurrin of the University of Scranton is the third Royal to garner Landmark Men's Tennis Senior Scholar Athlete honors, joining older brother Tim McGurrin (2013), and Brian Harkins (2019). McGurrin is Scranton's fifth winner this year, joining Megan Gallagher (Field Hockey), Lauren Byrne (Women's Swimming & Diving), Connor Harding (Baseball), and Megan Zinn (Softball).
McGurrin was also named the 2021 Landmark Conference Player of the Year and was a three-time All-Landmark First Team selection in both singles and doubles play. The Clarks Summit, Pa., native ranks in the top-10 all time in program history in both singles wins (38) and doubles wins (34).
During his career, the Royals advanced to three Landmark Conference Championship matches and posted a 33-17 (.660) overall record including a 17-5 (.773) mark in Landmark matches. McGurrin was also honored seven times as Landmark Athlete of the Week.
In the classroom, McGurrin excelled as an Accounting major with a 4.0 GPA and is a two-time member of the Landmark Conference Academic Honor Roll. He earned CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team accolades in 2020.
