Riehl Named Women's Tennis Senior Scholar Athlete

TOWSON, Md. – The Landmark Conference selects 22 senior scholar athletes each year to recognize the top student-athlete in each sport based on academics and athletics.

The honorees must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.20 and are selected by a committee of Landmark Conference officers, athletics directors, senior woman administrators, faculty athletic representatives, and sports information directors.

Lenea Riehl of Elizabethtown College is the third Blue Jay to garner Landmark Women's Tennis Senior Scholar Athlete honors, joining Christine Evangelista (2015), and Madison McCall (2017). Riehl is Elizabethtown's third winner this year, joining Will Schoener (Men's Cross Country) and Veronica Christ (Women's Basketball).

Riehl was a part of the Blue Jays' Landmark Championship team in 2017 as a freshman that went on to the program's most recent NCAA Division III Tournament appearance.

She moved her way up the lineup into No. 1 singles position the following year and played most of the rest of her Elizabethtown career in that spot. Individually, Riehl went .500 or better in singles play from sophomore year on up, though she won a career-high nine singles matches in 2017, her first season.

A six-time All-Landmark Conference selection, Riehl has also been an accomplished student along the way. She was an ITA Division III Women's All-Academic Team honoree in 2017, 2018, and 2019, along with being a member of the Landmark Spring Academic Honor Roll each year of eligibility.

Riehl and Kailey Caroland teamed up to go 7-1 in No. 1 doubles play this past season for the Blue Jays. The Gap, Pa. native earned the Landmark's Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week honor the week of March 29 after the team's opening match with Scranton. She was 4-4 overall between No. 1 and No. 2 singles.

In all, Riehl was a three-time First Team selection (one at singles, two at doubles) and three-time Second Team selection (two at singles, one at doubles) for Elizabethtown.

She graduated Elizabethtown with a degree in Occupational Therapy with a grade point average of 3.96.
