Doherty Named Women's Outdoor T&F Senior Scholar Athlete

TOWSON, Md. – The Landmark Conference selects 22 senior scholar athletes each year to recognize the top student-athlete in each sport based on academics and athletics.

The honorees must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.20 and are selected by a committee of Landmark Conference officers, athletics directors, senior woman administrators, faculty athletic representatives, and sports information directors.

Erin Doherty of Elizabethtown College is the first Blue Jay to garner Landmark Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Senior Scholar honors. She is the fourth winner this year, joining Will Schoener (Men's Cross Country), Veronica Christ (Women's Basketball), and Lenea Riehl (Women’s Tennis).

In her final season of competition, Doherty made it count for Elizabethtown. She helped the Blue Jays to a second-place finish as a team and made her way to the podium twice at the Outdoor Championships in early May. Doherty began the meet with a strategic and well executed performance in the 10,000m. She won her first career individual gold medal as a result and earned her third all-conference honor. Later in the meet, Doherty took third in the 5,000m.

She has been a point scorer at the outdoor meet dating back to 2018 as a sophomore when she was sixth in the 10k. Doherty worked her way to the podium twice in 2019 for both the 10,000m and 5,000m.

The Belford, N.J. native was also an important component to Etown's cross country success during her tenure, winning three team championships. In her last Landmark XC Championship, she placed fourth overall and went on to become an all-region performer for the Blue Jays at the Division III Mideast Regional.

Doherty has also succeeded in the classroom as an occupational therapy major at Elizabethtown. With her additional year of eligibility thanks to the blanket waiver from the NCAA after the 2020 outdoor season didn't happen, she will have been named to the Landmark Conference Spring Academic Honor Roll four times. Doherty is also a Dean's List student and a 2019 USTFCCCA Academic All-American.

She left her mark on the program, finishing her career with the sixth-fastest indoor 5k and ninth-best indoor 3k all-time.
