King Named Men's Soccer Senior Scholar Athlete

TOWSON, Md. - The Landmark Conference selects 22 senior scholar-athletes each year to recognize the top student-athlete in each sport based on academics and athletics.

The honorees must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.20 and are selected by a committee of Landmark Conference officers, athletics directors, senior woman administrators, faculty athletic representatives, and sports information directors.

Brendan King of The University of Scranton was selected as the 2022 Landmark Men's Soccer Senior Scholar-Athlete. He is the third Royal to earn the honor, joining Bill McGuiness (2012) and Matthew Busch (2016).

King is a two-time All-Landmark selection as a defender. He earned Second Team honors in 2021 and was named to the First Team this past fall. He started all 51 games in his career and helped anchor a backline that allowed the fewest goals in the Landmark in both 2019 (15) and 2021 (11). During those 51 matches, Scranton tallied 19 shutouts.

He served as the team captain this fall and was a member of the team's Leadership Council since his sophomore year. King was also the men's soccer representative on the conference All-Sportsmanship team. The sportsmanship team recognizes student-athletes who epitomize the ideals of sportsmanship.

Academically, King is majoring in Biology with a 3.92 cumulative grade point average. He is a six-time University of Scranton Dean's List honoree and will be a three-time selection to the Landmark Academic Honor Roll.

Off the pitch, King has volunteered with the Water Street Rescue Mission since 2017 and has been a Dental Clinic Volunteer since the start of the year.

He has also volunteered with Friends of the Poor and the Arrupe House, helping deliver donated food to residents and homeless shelters.
