TOWSON, Md. - The Landmark Conference announced the 2022 Men's Soccer Awards, as voted on by the league's eight head coaches.
Offensive Player of the Year - Darius Siahpoosh (Catholic University)
Defensive Player of the Year - Ed Rainey (Elizabethtown College)
Rookie of the Year - Thomas Smith (Elizabethtown College)
Coaching Staff of the Year - Goucher College (Bryan Laut)
Siahpoosh earns his second straight Offensive Player of the Year honors and is the fourth Cardinal to receive the award. The senior has scored 11 goals this season, putting him at the top of the Landmark. He scored in nine of the 18 games this season, including a multiple-goal effort against Baruch University (2) and Drew University (2). He is part of an offensive unit that is averaging 2.28 goals per game. He earns his third All-Landmark First-Team selection after guiding the Cardinals to an 11-3-4 overall record and 7-0 in Landmark play. Siahpoosh will head to Christopher Newport to take on Lynchburg in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament. The Cardinals received an at-large bid.
Rainey ends his Elizabethtown career as a four-time all-conference selection, including his third on the First Team. The major award is the first of his career as he helped anchor a defensive unit that ranked 38th across Division III in goals against average (0.78). The Blue Jays also had eight shutouts during the season. Rainey is the fourth different Blue Jay to be named the Landmark Defensive Player of the Year.
Smith started in 18 games as a defender for the Blue Jays in his rookie campaign. He joined Rainey as a part of a defensive backline that posted eight shutouts this fall. Smith is the second Etown men's soccer player to be named Rookie of the Year. He joins Gilberto Waso, who was named in 2015. Additionally, Smith is the only freshman to earn All-Conference recognition.
Laut and Goucher were named Landmark Coaching Staff of the Year for the second time in their career, with the first coming in 2014. Laut and assistants Matt Poell, Drew List, and Drew Phillips have guided Goucher to a 9-4-5 record and a 3-2-2 Landmark Conference mark, with the Gophers' nine victories their most since 2006. Goucher finished in third place in the conference standings, its highest-ever finish, and the Gophers' three Landmark All-Conference selections match the second-most in a single season. Goucher will also be making its first-ever ECAC Tournament appearance this weekend.
Catholic led the all-conference selections with seven, followed by Elizabethtown with six. Drew University, Goucher, and The University of Scranton each had three, while Moravian University had two.
