All-Landmark Swimming & Diving Teams Announced
TOWSON, Md. – The 2022 Landmark Swimming & Diving Championships concluded on Sunday evening at the Germantown Indoor Swim Center. The conference awarded the team champions and award winners.
Catholic University men's swimming and diving team won its sixth-straight title at the 2022 Landmark Conference Swimming & Diving Championships. With 22 total medals this weekend, the Cardinals totaled 892.5 points which were 255 more than second-place Drew. They earned eight gold, five silver, and nine bronze. Catholic is the 12th different team in Landmark Conference history to win at least six-straight league titles and the second in men's swimming. The team is also the second in school history to win at least six-straight Landmark Conference championships.
The Drew University women's swimming & diving team captured its first Landmark Conference title in team history thrillingly on Sunday, coming from behind in the final night. The Rangers racked up 755.5 points to beat out five-time defending conference champion Catholic University by 38 points. The Rangers are the fourth team to win the conference title in women's swimming.
Drew's freshman Hayden Koh won a pair of major awards as the Rangers men's swimming & diving team tied its best finish in team history at the Conference Championships. Koh accumulated 60 points for the meet and registered NCAA B cuts in all three of his events. For his efforts, he was honored as both the Landmark Conference Men's Swimmer of the Meet as well as the Men's Rookie of the Meet. He becomes Drew's first-ever Men's Landmark Conference Swimmer of the Meet and its third Rookie of the Meet. On Sunday, Koh won the 200-butterfly in 1:49.79, over four seconds faster than his nearest competitor. He also set school, meet, and conference records in the 100-butterfly on Saturday, when also captured the 100-backstroke while lowering his own school record. In addition, Koh helped two relay teams to conference titles and led off for the winning 400-freestyle contingent on Sunday. His split of 46.29 set an additional school record, edging the previous standard of 46.58 set by Jack Mahoney in 2020.
Catholic freshman Seth Greer earned Diver of the Meet honors, the second straight year the Cardinals have sent a diver to the podium. Greer won both the 1-meter (381.70 points) and 3-meter (382.05 points) boards. Cardinal head coach Tyler Ziegler and his staff earned their second straight honor after keeping Catholic's title streak intact.
On the women's side, University of Scranton's Lauren Byrne was named the Women's Swimmer of the Meet for the third time in her career. Byrne was named the Landmark Conference Swimmer of the Meet in 2019 and 2021 and was the Rookie of the Meet in 2018. Byrne notched the 12th conference crown of her career after winning the 200 IM for the fifth straight year with a time of 2:07.28. Then on Saturday, she cruised home in the 100 breast with a time of 1:04.88 to win the event for the fourth time in her storied career. She capped off her time at Scranton in fashion by winning the 100 free with a time of 51.80 seconds, just eclipsing the previous Landmark record of 51.82 that had been set by Susquehanna's Katie Willis in 2019.
Drew's Katerina Poulathas earned the Women's Rookie of the Meet Award after leading the Rangers with 56 points, winning two events and taking third in another. She becomes Drew's fourth Landmark Conference Women's Rookie of the Meet winner and its third in as many years, following current teammate Amira Hadri (2021) and Katie Cashin (2020).
Scranton's Jeanna Gailius took her third straight Diver of the Meet honors on Sunday. The junior won the 3-meter board for the third straight year with 311.90 points. She brought home a silver medal in the one-meter with 302.70 points.
Ranger head coach Rich Munson and his staff were honored with their first Coaching Staff of the Meet award. Drew's climb to the top of the mountain started when Munson became head coach in the 2015-16 season. After finishing in sixth place the previous season, his squad took fifth in his first year at the Forest. They moved up to fourth in 2017 - the best finish at the Landmark Championships in team history to that point - and repeated that performance over the next three years before placing third last season.
First Team All-Landmark honors are awarded to everyone who finishes first at the Landmark Championships while second-place finishers earn Second Team All-Landmark recognition.
