Men's Basketball Awards Announced
TOWSON, Md. – Susquehanna University's Danny Frauenheim highlights the 2022 Landmark Men's Basketball All-Conference team after being named the conference Player of the Year.
Jay Martin of SU was voted the Defensive Player of the Year while Will McLoughlin of The University of Scranton was tabbed Rookie of the Year. Susquehanna head coach Frank Marcinek and his staff picked up Coaching Staff of the Year honors.
Frauenheim joins Josh Robinson (2008), Joel Patch (2009), and Steven Weidlich (2017) to be named Player of the Year. The two-time First Team selection ranks first in the conference in assists per game (5.3) and is third in steals, averaging 1.7. He registered an assist in every game he played in this season. In the championship game against Drew, the senior was named the Most Valuable Player after finishing with 15 points, three assists, and four steals.
Martin is the third River Hawk to be named Defensive Player of the Year, and the first Bryan Majors earned the honor in both 2009 and 2010. Martin finished the regular season with a league-leading 62 steals and finished with 41 steals, 105 rebounds, and 12 blocks.
McLoughlin is the third Royal to earn Rookie of the Year honors, joining Ross Danzig (2012) and Logan Bailey (2019). The freshman averaged 9.5 points per game for the Royals and 5.0 rebounds, which ranks second on the team. Additionally, he ended the regular season with 15 blocks, 17 steals, and 27 assists.
Marcinek and his staff are picking up their fifth Landmark Coaching Staff of the Year honor after leading the River Hawks to the No. 1 seed in the Landmark Conference Championship with a 13-1 league record. Susquehanna was in the top-three in the conference in points (1st), steals (1st), field goal percentage (2nd), three-point field goal percentage (2nd), and free-throw percentage (1st). The River Hawks are enjoying its 20-win season under Marcinek's leadership, and are currently riding a 13-game winning streak. SU will take on Rowan University in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament.
